CONCRETE REPAIR

It's no surprise that concrete cracks. Just think back on all the times you've seen a concrete slab with cracks in it. In fact, we have a saying; There are 2 types of concrete...Concrete that has cracks, and concrete that hasn't cracked yet. Keep in mind, all cracks are not equal. Most cracks that you'll find in a concrete slab are usually nothing to be concerned with. It's normal for concrete to have minor hairline cracks, but anything more may mean you've got a problem with your slab. And then, there are other problems that can occur with concrete. The following is a list of common concrete problems:

Cracking - Concrete slabs can develop cracks due to shrinkage, settling, or temperature changes. Some cracks are worse than others. If you are unsure, just call us at 772-238-7570 and we will come out and take a look at it, FREE!

Spalling - This happens when the surface, or top layer, sometimes called the cream of the concrete starts to flake or chip away. It can happen due to freeze-thaw cycles, improper installation, improper curing, or exposure to chemicals. Typically, to remedy this, a thin layer of concrete can be applied to the damaged slab through a process called concrete resurfacing.

Curling - Concrete slabs can curl at the edges due to moisture imbalance. This can happen due to differences in moisture content between the top and bottom of the slab. During the hotter time of the year, this could happen if the concrete contractor didn't cover the concrete slab with plastic sheeting after the finishing process, causing rapid evaporation of water on the top layer. We can evaluate your slab if you notice curling, just call us!

Scaling - This is another type of surface damage that occurs when the top layer of the concrete peels away. It can happen due to exposure to salt, chemicals, or freeze-thaw cycles.

Uneven settlement - If the ground underneath the concrete slab is not properly compacted, or if there is a washout that happens under the slab, the slab can settle unevenly. This can cause cracks and other types of damage.

Poor Drainage - If water is not draining away from the slab properly, it can cause erosion or even undermine the foundation of the slab. This can lead to settling, cracking and other problems.

Alkali-Silica Reaction - AKA Concrete cancer, is a damaging chemical reaction that happens in concrete over time. It's caused by the reaction between the cement and certain types of aggregates in the concrete when there's enough water present. This reaction causes the concrete to swell up, and it can cause serious damage. Typically seen here in Florida on concrete posts that are exposed to saltwater.
